Grump's Ice Fishin' Page

Here in Ontario during the long winter months we hit the ice for ice fishing. This year is no exception. With the early cold weather here,we now have over 24 inches of ice.Although the fishing hasn't been all that good as of yet,we will be getting some good action on lake trout and whitefish soon.I fish the deep water for these two fish, but if you stay shallow there is lots of perch just waiting to bite your hook. You can catch a 50 perch limit here in a few hours fishing. The limit for trout and whitefish is 2 of each per day.Sometimes you can get this limit in minutes,or it can take all day.All fish huts must be off the ice by March 15th,but you can continue fishing til the ice goes out.Don't be an idiot and become a statistic though, use common sense and don't go out on unsafe ice.Have a look at my ice fishing page while your here.

The 1999/2000 ice fishing season has come and gone now.The picture above is of a 14 lb lake trout I caught. We had a pretty good year this year, although it was short due to the warm weather. We fish 7 miles out on the ice on Lake Simcoe. We mostly fish for lake trout and whitefish, but we do catch some perch, ling, and the very rare pike.
